Ex-Armani general counsel files a workplace discrimination claim

Many Texas readers may have heard of Armani as being a leading name in fashion. The company is now in the news in an unfavorable light after accusations of workplace discrimination by one of its former employees. Not only does the plaintiff believe he was discriminated against because of his national origin but also because of his medical condition.

The plaintiff began working for Armani in October of 2014 as its general counsel. From the beginning, the man noticed tension when he was purportedly told by the CFO multiple times that the CFO did not trust people who are Mexican. Being of that national origin himself, the plaintiff said he was disturbed by what was happening. Once the CFO had been alerted to the plaintiff being Mexican, the plaintiff claims that he suddenly was placed under close surveillance.

The plaintiff reported this behavior to the COO, but he claims that nothing ever happened. He claims that the COO openly disapproved that the plaintiff had put his complaints in writing. Although the plaintiff purportedly continued to work hard and received an excellent performance review, he was not able to get a pay raise. He claims he was told that if he did not like the way things were run, he could quit.

The plaintiff wanted to stay with the company, but after disclosing that he was diagnosed with operable colon cancer, he was allegedly fired. He claims the company told him that the reason for his firing was because he could no longer be trusted. Believing that he was the victim of workplace discrimination and retaliation, he filed a $75 million claim against Armani in a Supreme Court. Texas workers in similar situations are not required to tolerate such behavior and can turn to the legal system to determine how to move forward.
