Papa John's involved in workplace discrimination case

There are various laws in place that work to protect workers from unjust discrimination in their places of employment. Unfortunately, many individuals still face workplace discrimination, and their lives are often severely impacted. However, rather than accepting such actions, unfairly-treated employees have the ability to take legal action in order to address such unjust treatment. 

Texas residents may be interested in a case involving a Papa John's pizza location in another state. Reports indicated that the company had hired a worker with Down Syndrome at that location. An independently-employed job coach worked alongside the employee, and the man carried out his duties successfully for five months. However, an operating partner reportedly visited the location and told management to fire the worker. 

As the worker had carried out his necessary duties effectively during his employment, the decision to fire him was considered an act of disability discrimination. As a result, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission filed a lawsuit against the company, which was recently settled for $125,000. Additionally, the company is required to review employment policies and management training. 

Workplace discrimination can negatively affect workers who do their best to perform their necessary work duties. Cases of such unjust actions should not go unaddressed, and in some instances, legal action may be warranted. If Texas residents believe that they faced discrimination due to disabilities, race, age or other factors, they may wish to speak with experienced employment law attorneys to determine whether filing a claim in civil court could be in their best interests.
