Family Medical Leave Act violations may mean Texas legal action

For individuals who suffer from serious medical issues, the worry of losing their job may be a significant concern. However, the federal Family Medical Leave Act protects workers under certain conditions when they need time away from work to attend to health issues. Unfortunately, some individuals may find the rights protected under this act being violated and losing their jobs as a result.

Texas residents may be interested in one out-of-state man's predicament with such issues. Reports stated that the man has a serious health condition that apparently caused him to need time away from work. It was unclear what the specific health condition was, but it was noted that the man had served in the military for over a decade. While attending to his health problems, the man was reportedly fired from his job.

The man believes that the conservation group for which he worked did not fully inform him of his rights under the FMLA and, as a result, tampered with and violated his rights under the act by dismissing him from his position. In turn, the man has filed a lawsuit against the company for this violation as well as disability discrimination. He hopes to gain compensation for back wages and other damages.

Many individuals rely on the Family Medical Leave Act to protect their jobs amidst health crises. Therefore, when their rights are violated and they are unnecessarily punished, the situation can be devastating.
